We asked Jared, a Pittsburgh-based landscaper and owner of JJ Outdoor Living, if there were any elements that he wanted to preserve from his company’s old website. Weeks later, we are still cracking up that THAT is how he responded.
Once Jared had communicated his brand’s values and needs through our Web Design Questionnaire (our starting point for custom-building websites together for our clients), Jared did something that not all business owners do: he gave us complete creative control.
First, we established what pages JJ Outdoor Living would need in order to best connect with the homeowners looking for what they offer. Kelly set to work writing copy that was as down-to-earth as Jared, while also communicating how high-end his landscape designs and installations are.
Meanwhile, Victoria harnessed her expertise in color theory and visual branding to refresh the whole aesthetic of the brand while keeping the signature green Jared had been using since day 1. From establishing an updated color palette to capturing high-quality photographs of some of the company’s latest projects, the new look was updated across social media platforms and printed marketing materials.
Once the homepage copy was complete, Victoria created a completely original web page layout that offered the perfect presentation and flow for everything Kelly had written. After some minor adjustments, we secured Jared’s enthusiastic approval, and went on to extend those themes to the rest of the site’s pages. Once again, the copy dictated the design, and the design helped the message shine.
Since there is a rising demand for JJ Outdoor Living’s skills and services, Jared needed us to not only appeal to homeowners, but to potential crew members. We set out to create a hiring page that attracts reliable, hardworking, growth-focused workers. That means clarity about the demands of the position, enthusiasm about the cool spaces JJ employees build, wage transparency, and a smooth, direct way to apply online. We can’t wait to see Jared’s team grow.
From meta descriptions and alt-text, to making sure that JJOL’s first blog post featured every highlight of the company’s most recent masterpiece, Victoria and Kelly started JJ Outdoor Living on the right foot with tip-top search engine optimization.
That creative freedom continued to blossom as Victoria gave JJOL’s social media the glow-up it needed, which included a reel that garnered over 2500 views in its first day, created a brand consistency that has caused the reach to grow by +1,327%!
