I have never been one to create something meaningless. So when I realized that web design and branding was where I belonged, I didn’t want it to just be something basic. I didn’t want all the templates to look identical and I definitely didn’t want all the custom and semi-custom branding options to be the same. I once heard this sermon at church about how artists/designers always have that one signature element that lets others know WHO was the one who made it. Even with a custom home builder, whose homes all look different, there is something unifying about them. Something that reveals who made it. I get it, but that is the exact opposite of what I personally want for my businesses and those I (hope) to impact. I wanted to create a collection those let others shine.
My goal is to create brands and websites for businesses that are on their level to maintain, easy to keep consistent, and showcase THEM, not me. I don’t want someone to look at an online home and think “Oh, the Virtual Sidekick made this.” I want them to see it and think, “Wow. This is inviting and totally characteristic of the owners of the home.”
Next came the task of naming and casting the vision for the first collection that I was going to create. When telling my best friend, Michelle, about how I wanted to be different and serve a diverse range of entrepreneurs, she instantly said “us.” It all clicked in that moment. My best friends are a collection of 13 humans from all different walks, with personalities more unique than most. We have been calling ourselves “The Bees” for almost a decade. It was brilliant.
So here’s a sneak peek into what I am naming “The Hive Collection.”
